Kampala Hostel Hit by Cooking Gas Blast!! Security Guard and Students Injured

A cooking gas cylinder exploded at Sports Pro Hostel in Banda Zone 9, Nakawa Division, Kampala District, on August 25, 2025, at around 5:40 PM. The powerful blast caused significant damage to the ground floor of the three-story building, shattering windows and doors, and creating panic among residents.

Frank, the hostel’s security guard, sustained serious injuries and was referred to Naguru Hospital after receiving initial care at a local clinic. In addition, five Kyambogo University students were injured in the explosion. Two of the students have been identified as Chelangat Flavia and Akello Florence, while the names of the remaining three are yet to be confirmed.

Police officers responded promptly to the scene, cordoning off the area and ensuring the safety of nearby residents. Victims were quickly referred to Naguru and Mulago Hospitals for further treatment, with authorities monitoring their conditions closely.

Preliminary investigations have confirmed that the explosion was caused by a cooking gas cylinder. The incident serves as a serious reminder of the importance of handling gas cylinders carefully. Following proper safety guidelines, including regular inspection and safe storage of cylinders, can prevent such dangerous accidents.
