As Uganda prepares for the nomination of candidates for the 2026 Presidential Elections on September 23rd and 24th, authorities have announced detailed traffic routing, diversions, and parking arrangements to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhanced security.
Main routes to the nomination venue will start from Kampala city center, passing through Yusuf Lule Road, Mulago traffic lights, City Mortuary traffic lights, Kubiri traffic lights, Bwaise Flyover, the Northern Bypass, Busega roundabout, Kajjansi flyover, Old Entebbe Road, Lweza Fuelex, and Kigo Road Junction.
Parking arrangements have also been clearly outlined. Only the candidates will be allowed to park at the main venue, while other invited guests are directed to park at St. Joseph’s Church of Uganda in Lweza.
Authorities have also prepared traffic diversions at key points, which will be activated if needed. For instance, traffic at Kisubi may be diverted to Nakawuka Road to decongest Entebbe Highway, while vehicles at Kajjansi flyover may use the Munyonyo Spur to access the city center. Additional diversions are planned at Lweza Fuelex, Kigo Rehabilitation Center Junction, and Kigo Furniture Junction to manage traffic after nominations and ensure candidates and motorists can move smoothly.
Residents affected by these diversions will still have access to their homes using special stickers provided by the security team. Traffic police will regulate traffic flow at all junctions and access roads, holding road users about 50 meters from major points if needed. All diversions will start at 5:00 AM on both September 23rd and 24th and will remain in place until the exercise is completed. Motorcycle riders will not be allowed beyond designated cutoff points, and anyone violating traffic regulations will be dealt with according to the law.
Authorities are urging the public and participants to follow all instructions from traffic and security officers, clearly display their vehicle stickers, exercise patience, and plan their journeys in advance. These measures aim to ensure a successful, peaceful, and well-organized nomination process.
