Boda Boda Digital Empowerment Project Launched to Transform Riders’ Skills

Must read

Uganda has taken a bold step into the digital future with the launch of the Boda Boda Digital Empowerment Project. Yesterday, at the Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), through its visionary arm UCUSAF, introduced the initiative aimed at equipping Boda Boda riders with essential digital skills.

The project seeks to empower riders not only to move people efficiently on the roads but also to navigate the digital world confidently. By learning how to use digital tools safely and effectively, riders will gain skills that can transform their livelihoods and participation in Uganda’s growing digital economy.

Director James Beronda, representing the UCC, explained the mission clearly: the goal is to make Boda Boda riders masters of information and communication technology (ICT), giving them the knowledge and confidence to engage with digital platforms. “This isn’t just about riding; it’s about navigating the digital highway with confidence and capability,” he said.

The initiative is a collaborative effort, with strong partnerships involving Impact Outsourcing and Simba Automotives. Together, these organizations are committed to empowering the Boda Boda sector, demonstrating Uganda’s dedication to inclusion, skill-building, and economic transformation.

The Boda Boda industry is one of Uganda’s largest informal sectors, employing thousands and serving millions daily. By introducing digital skills, the project ensures that riders are not left behind in the country’s push toward a fully connected society.

Through the program, riders will learn to use digital tools for safety, communication, and financial management. This empowerment is expected to improve their efficiency, increase earnings, and enhance overall professional development in the sector.

Beyond personal benefit, the initiative strengthens Uganda’s broader digital ecosystem. As more citizens gain digital literacy, the country moves closer to achieving a fully inclusive digital society, where everyone can participate in and benefit from technological advancement.

The Boda Boda Digital Empowerment Project also serves as a model for other informal sectors in Uganda, showing how technology can be harnessed to enhance skills, productivity, and access to opportunities.

In a country rapidly embracing technology, projects like this ensure that no one is left behind. Boda Boda riders, who are the backbone of Uganda’s transport sector, are now being equipped to thrive in a digital world.

This launch is more than a project; it is a statement that Uganda is ready to embrace digital transformation, one rider at a time. With empowered Boda Boda riders, the country is speeding confidently toward a digitally connected future.
