JUST IN!! Police Arrest Three After Man Dies in Suspected Revenge Attack in Kasese

Police in Kasese District are investigating a case of murder by assault after a 24-year-old man was beaten to death in Munkunyu Sub County. The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday morning, October 2, 2025.

The deceased has been identified as Masereka Geoffrey, a resident of Nyakakindu Village in Kitabu Sub County. Police reports indicate that Masereka was killed after allegedly attacking a couple who had attended a night vigil in Munkunyu II Village.

According to eyewitness accounts, the suspects, Thembo Yokonia and Kabugho Jeneva, were returning home from the vigil at around 3:00am when they were confronted by the deceased and another unidentified person. In the scuffle, Jeneva’s phone and house key were stolen.

Thembo managed to escape but later returned with another man, Masereka Vincent, to rescue Jeneva. On spotting them, the attackers fled in different directions. One of them, later identified as Geoffrey, was caught by Thembo and beaten severely until he died on the spot.

Police say the deceased was stripped naked, assaulted, and left in a bean plantation near a feeder road in Munkunyu II Village. His body bore multiple injuries and bloodstains were found on clothes abandoned at the scene.

Investigators also confirmed that the stolen phone, an Itel handset, had a mobile money account containing about UGX 4.1 million. This raised suspicions that theft may have triggered the deadly confrontation.

Local leaders, including LC1 chairman Baluku David Isenzumwa, reported the matter to Munkunyu Police Station at around 4:30am. Police quickly responded, documented the crime scene, and conveyed the body to Bwera Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The three suspects, including Thembo, Jeneva, and Vincent, were arrested and are being held at Munkunyu Police Station. Officers confirmed that the suspects also sustained injuries and were found with bloodstained clothes.

Detectives from the homicide unit, together with the Scene of Crime Officer and CID, have opened a file registered as Bwera CRB 430/2025. Statements have been recorded from witnesses as investigations continue.

Police have urged residents to remain calm as inquiries progress. They also reminded the public against taking the law into their own hands, warning that mob justice only leads to further loss of life and criminal liability.
