Uganda Police Issues Statement After Deadly Truck Collision Claims Officer’s Life

Must read

Uganda Police has released a statement following a fatal road accident that occurred this morning at 4:00 AM at Kasanvu along the Mutukula-Kyotera road. The crash involved a police Landcruiser (UP 2914 T) and a Mercedes-Benz trailer (T824 DXF/T529 EFJ), resulting in the death of the police vehicle’s driver and injuries to three other officers on board.

According to the police, the Landcruiser was parked at a checkpoint with officers on duty when the trailer, traveling at high speed in the same direction, lost control and crashed into the stationary vehicle. The trailer ultimately rested on top of the police car. The driver of the police vehicle died instantly, while the other officers sustained injuries and are receiving medical care.

Investigations revealed that the trailer was being driven by a turn-man while the main driver was resting. Authorities have arrested the turn-man and are actively searching for the main driver, who remains at large.

In their statement, police strongly urged all road users, particularly truck drivers, to always adhere to speed limits and exercise extra caution during night hours when visibility is low. They also condemned the dangerous practice of allowing untrained turn-men to operate heavy trucks, which puts lives at serious risk.

The Uganda Police extended condolences to the family of the deceased officer and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. They emphasized that this tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of discipline, proper training, and vigilance on Uganda’s roads to prevent future loss of life.
