President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who also doubles as the NRM Flag Bearer, has instructed police and other security agencies in Kira Municipality to seriously hunt for political goons who attacked the home of the NRM Flag Bearer for Kira Municipality and assaulted his wife, sources have exclusively revealed.

According to sources within the NRM, last week Kananura Daniel, the party’s flag bearer for Kira Municipality, had gone to solicit votes for President Museveni in West Nile when unknown assailants raided his home.

“It was last week at around 8:00 a.m. when my husband was away. I was behind my house washing utensils when unknown goons riding on a motorcycle attacked my home. They were armed with pangas and asked me where my husband was,” said Kananura’s wife.

She added that before she could say a word, one of the attackers struck her on the head. “I fell down and made a serious alarm, which attracted the neighbours who responded quickly, forcing the attackers to flee,” she narrated.

After the incident, she reported the matter to both the police and her husband. Sources inside the NRM confirmed that President Museveni was informed about the attack and immediately ordered a serious probe to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.

Patrick Onyango, the Police Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), confirmed the incident. “It is true the home of Kananura Daniel was attacked and his wife assaulted,” he said.

Onyango added that investigations are underway and that so far, one suspect has been arrested and a motorcycle impounded in connection with the attack.

Security agencies in Kira Municipality have since intensified efforts to track down the remaining suspects believed to have participated in the violent assault.

The incident has sparked concern among NRM supporters and residents of Kira Municipality, who have called on authorities to strengthen security ahead of the upcoming elections.

President Museveni’s directive reflects his growing concern over the rise of politically motivated violence during the campaign period, with instructions that all perpetrators must face the full force of the law.
