Must read

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) took part in the grand closing event of the SPICE Project, held yesterday at the MCI Media Hub in Kabalagala. The project, designed to develop the skills of young entrepreneurs, focuses on enhancing the sustainability of their creative ventures, with a particular emphasis on financial management and governance.

Represented by Geoffrey Sengendo, the UCC commended the French Embassy in Uganda and the six implementing partners for their commitment to cultivating young talent within the audio-visual sector. The initiative has been praised for equipping emerging filmmakers, animators, and storytellers with practical skills needed to thrive in the competitive creative industry.

The SPICE Project has provided a platform where young creatives learn how to manage their projects professionally while understanding the importance of transparency, strategic planning, and sound financial practices. By fostering these skills, the project aims to ensure that creative ventures are not only artistic but also sustainable over the long term.

UCC reiterated its commitment to supporting Uganda’s creative industry, highlighting the crucial role of young filmmakers and storytellers in promoting the country’s cultural output. The organization emphasized that nurturing talent at home helps Uganda’s creative products reach audiences across the globe.

During the closing event, participants showcased some of the skills they had acquired through the project, demonstrating innovative approaches to storytelling, animation, and audio-visual production. Many young entrepreneurs expressed optimism about applying the lessons learned to grow their businesses and achieve wider recognition for Ugandan creativity.

The French Embassy, alongside the implementing partners, was recognized for playing a pivotal role in mentoring and guiding the participants throughout the project. Their support has enabled young creatives to gain hands-on experience, access professional networks, and learn best practices in running a successful business in the creative sector.

By blending creativity with business acumen, the SPICE Project is helping to transform Uganda’s youth into confident entrepreneurs who can contribute meaningfully to the country’s cultural economy. The skills gained go beyond technical expertise, preparing participants to navigate the challenges of managing sustainable creative ventures.

UCC also encouraged other stakeholders in Uganda’s creative industry to invest in youth development initiatives. Such efforts, they noted, are critical for ensuring that the creative sector remains vibrant, competitive, and capable of generating employment and economic growth.

The SPICE Project stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between government, international partners, and local organizations in unlocking the potential of Uganda’s young creative minds. With the knowledge and skills acquired, participants are now better positioned to innovate, tell unique stories, and elevate Uganda’s presence in the global creative arena.
