Police Bust Former UMEME Employees in Major Electricity Theft Operation

Must read

On 14th November, a joint operation was carried out in Bombo at around 7:30 AM, targeting individuals involved in the vandalism of electricity infrastructure. The operation led to the identification of two suspects: Kamoga Godfrey from Bajjo Kisingiri Village and Kasaga Geoffrey from Namaliga West Village. Both men are former employees of UMEME, Uganda’s main electricity distribution company.

During questioning, the suspects cooperated with officers and helped locate several storage sites in Nkokonjeru and Bajjo. At these locations, a large cache of stolen electrical materials was recovered, including two rolls of bare conductors, five rolls of three-phase ABC wires, small single-phase ABC cables, pliers, and other electrical tools used in connecting electricity lines.

The recovery of these stolen materials is a significant step toward curbing electricity theft, which has caused frequent power outages and losses in the region. Both suspects, along with the recovered items, have been transferred to the CID Headquarters for further investigation and legal processing. Authorities have praised the operation as a success in safeguarding national electricity infrastructure and urged residents to report any suspicious activities related to power theft.
