A tragic incident occurred at Kalagala Falls along the River Nile in Kangulumira Town Council, Kayunga District, on the morning of 21st November 2025, resulting in the death of a police officer.
According to reports, police had been deployed at Kalagala Falls to provide security for the ongoing Nyege-Nyege Festival. Around 8:30 a.m., PPC Alar Andrew, a 24-year-old officer from the Counter-Terrorism unit, went to the river to bathe with colleagues. During the bath, PPC Komakech, another officer, slipped from a stone into the river. While attempting to rescue him, PPC Alar Andrew tragically drowned and was swept away by the strong currents.
Police authorities, led by D/SP Kemigisha Nusura, confirmed that inquiries into the incident began immediately after it was reported at Kangulumira Police Station at 9:20 a.m. The scene has been visited by officers, and statements have been recorded from eyewitnesses. As of the latest update, the body of PPC Alar Andrew is still submerged in the river.
The police have indicated that any new developments regarding the incident will be communicated promptly. This tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the dangers posed by strong river currents, even for trained personnel.
