Corruption Uncovered! Ugandan Officers Aid Suspect in $840K Gold Scam, Arrested & Charged

Must read

AntiGraft_SH, in collaboration with @CID1_UG and @ODPPUGANDA, have made a major breakthrough in the fight against corruption and abuse of office. Yesterday afternoon, three police officers attached to the Busia border were arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court. The officers, including AIP Kali Godfrey, CPL Owiny Peter, and CPL Odul Oscar, face charges of abuse of office, aiding a prisoner to escape, and conspiracy to defeat justice.

The case revolves around a serious incident that occurred between the 22nd and 23rd of December 2025, when these officers, employed in roles at the Uganda-Kenya border, used their positions of authority to assist a suspect, Kasule Najib, in escaping custody. Kasule Najib is a key suspect in a high-profile gold scam investigation, where an American national was defrauded of an astonishing USD 840,000. The three officers are accused of allowing the suspect to evade capture while being held at the Uganda-Kenya border by Interpol and terrorism tactical teams.

Kasule Najib’s involvement in the scam has drawn significant attention, as he is believed to have played a crucial role in the international fraud operation. His escape from custody has raised serious concerns about the integrity of law enforcement at the border. The charges against the officers highlight the need for transparency and accountability within the police force.

After being charged, the officers were remanded and will appear before the court again on January 21, 2025. This development serves as a reminder of the critical need to ensure that law enforcement officers uphold the law, rather than use their power for personal gain or to obstruct justice. The case also signals the ongoing efforts by AntiGraft_SH and its partners to tackle corruption and abuse within the ranks of public servants.

As investigations continue, the public eagerly awaits further developments in this case, hoping that those responsible for such acts of corruption are held accountable. The arrest and prosecution of the officers are seen as a positive step towards strengthening the fight against corruption and ensuring that law enforcement is free from exploitation.

This case also shines a light on the larger issue of corruption at Uganda’s borders, where illegal activities such as smuggling, human trafficking, and other forms of misconduct have been long-standing problems. Authorities are now under greater pressure to address these issues and restore public trust in law enforcement agencies.
