The Electoral Commission has set Tuesday, 27th January 2026 as polling day for the elections of Directly-Elected Members of Parliament in constituencies where voting had earlier been suspended. The announcement brings clarity to voters and candidates in the affected areas who have been waiting for a new date to complete the electoral process.
According to the Commission, voting will begin at 7:00am and end at 4:00pm. All registered voters in the concerned constituencies are expected to turn up at their designated polling stations within the given time to cast their ballots. Officials emphasized the importance of arriving early to avoid last-minute congestion.
The Electoral Commission also confirmed that counting of votes will start immediately after polling closes. This will then be followed by the official declaration of results at the respective tally centres, in line with electoral guidelines. Authorities say the process will be conducted in a transparent manner to ensure credibility.
The earlier suspension of polls in these areas had caused concern among candidates and supporters. With the new date now set, political parties and independent candidates are expected to intensify their final preparations and mobilize their supporters to participate peacefully.
The Commission has urged all stakeholders — including voters, candidates, security agencies, and election officials — to cooperate and maintain calm during the exercise. Citizens have also been reminded to follow electoral laws and procedures to ensure a smooth and orderly voting process.
This fresh polling exercise is seen as an important step in completing the parliamentary elections in all constituencies and ensuring that affected voters are fully represented in Parliament.
