Police have foiled a suspected aggravated robbery targeting a mobile money operator in Bugolobi, Kampala. The suspect, who was armed with a gun hidden inside a polythene bag, attempted the robbery but fled on a motorcycle after the plan failed.
Boda boda riders quickly noticed the suspect escaping and began pursuing him while alerting police patrol teams along Old Port Bell Road. Their quick response helped police move swiftly to the area in an effort to stop the suspect.
Upon noticing the approaching police officers, the suspects abandoned the firearm and escaped. The gun, which was loaded with four rounds of ammunition, was later recovered near the Ministry of Internal Affairs and secured as an exhibit.
A scene of crime team visited the area and examined the scene as part of ongoing investigations. Police are now working to identify the suspects and trace the motorcycle that was used during the attempted robbery.
Meanwhile, 42 suspects arrested during ongoing security operations in the Kampala Metropolitan area are currently undergoing screening and documentation before being taken to court. Police say operations will continue and have urged the public to keep sharing information that can help in the fight against crime.
