Reaching the People Better! Ministries Join Forces to Improve Public Education Airtime

Must read

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development is taking important steps to improve how government information reaches the public. Recently, its Communications Department met with officials from the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance to discuss a new plan aimed at making better use of free government public education airtime on radio and television.

This meeting is part of a larger effort to ensure that important government messages are clearly delivered and easily understood by citizens. Public education airtime is meant to inform people about government programs, policies, and services that affect their daily lives. However, there have been concerns that this airtime is not always used effectively, which can limit its impact.

To address this, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance recently carried out an assessment across selected Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as media houses. The goal was to understand how the programme is currently being used and identify areas that need improvement. The findings from this assessment have helped shape a draft Action Plan that is now being discussed and improved through meetings like this one.

The draft Action Plan focuses on several key areas. These include improving coordination between government institutions, ensuring that the content shared is clear and relevant, and making sure that messages reach the right audience at the right time. By working together, the ministries hope to create a more organized and effective system for public communication.

Officials believe that strengthening public education airtime will help citizens stay informed and engaged. When people understand government programmes better, they are more likely to benefit from them and take part in national development. This initiative also shows the government’s commitment to transparency and better communication with the public.

As discussions continue, stakeholders remain hopeful that the final plan will bring real change. With improved communication strategies, the government can build stronger connections with citizens and ensure that important information reaches every corner of the country.
