Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has addressed the nation with a key update on the roadmap for Uganda’s 2025/2026 General Elections. In his announcement, he revealed a major change concerning the nomination dates for presidential candidates.
Originally, the nominations were scheduled to take place on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2025. However, the Commission has now decided to move the dates forward. “The Electoral Commission has adjusted the dates for the nomination of candidates for Presidential Elections 2025/2026, which was earlier scheduled to be conducted on 2nd and 3rd October 2025. The nominations will now take place on 23rd and 24th September 2025,” Justice Byabakama announced.
The change in dates is part of the Electoral Commission’s effort to streamline the election process and allow more time for campaign activities and other preparations ahead of the 2026 General Elections. Justice Byabakama urged all political parties, aspiring candidates, and stakeholders to take note of the new dates and plan accordingly.
He further emphasized the Commission’s commitment to a smooth, transparent, and well-organized electoral process. As the country prepares for this crucial period, the Electoral Commission will continue to release updates and engage the public to ensure everyone is informed and ready to participate.
