Big Decisions Ahead as NRM Calls National Conference at Kololo Grounds

Must read

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is preparing to host a major national event that could shape the political direction of Uganda ahead of the 2026 general elections. A notice has been issued for the 1st Meeting of the 4th National Conference of the NRM, scheduled to take place from 27th to 28th August 2025. The event will be held at the historic Kololo Independence Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala under the powerful theme: “Building a Shared Prosperity: Investing in Uganda’s Future.”

This important gathering will bring together top NRM officials, delegates, and members to discuss and decide on key matters affecting the party and the country. The conference will officially kick off with a keynote address by the National Chairman of the NRM, President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni. Following this, the Secretary General will present a detailed report on the party’s performance and activities.

One of the most anticipated parts of the event is the presentation of names of candidates recommended by the National Executive Council for election to the Central Executive Committee. These key positions include the National Chairperson, the 1st and 2nd National Vice Chairpersons (the latter being reserved for a female candidate), and six Vice Chairpersons representing the regions of East, Central, North, West, Kampala, and Karamoja. After campaigns by the nominees, delegates will vote to elect the new leadership team.

Another critical agenda item is the announcement of the NRM Presidential Flag Bearer for the 2026 elections. The National Executive Committee will recommend a candidate, and the conference will vote and pass a resolution to officially confirm the chosen leader. The elected flag bearer will then address the conference, marking a key moment in the party’s preparations for the national elections.

The two-day event will close with national anthems and an official adjournment. The meeting reflects the core values of the NRM: Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy. These principles are expected to guide the discussions and decisions throughout the conference.

This upcoming NRM conference is not just another party meeting—it is a defining moment that will shape Uganda’s political future. With leadership elections and a presidential nomination on the agenda, all eyes will be on Kololo as the ruling party lays out its path for 2026 and beyond.
