Last night in Tororo, the importance of recognition was made vividly clear. Ibrahim Bbossa, the Head of Public Relations at the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), had the honour of officiating as Guest of Honour at the 1st Nile Excellence Annual Awards. The event was a bold platform designed to celebrate talent, resilience, and creativity from across Eastern Uganda, proving that true talent is not limited to the capital city or a single postcode.
What made the evening remarkable were not the trophies or the bright lights, but the people themselves. Young creatives, women, storytellers, artists, DJs, MCs, and media practitioners stood out for choosing integrity over shortcuts, truth over trends, and meaningful impact over fleeting online attention. This, Bbossa noted, is where real innovation begins. Sometimes, the quiet work of dedicated individuals speaks louder than any fanfare.

Regional creatives play a vital role in society. They preserve culture, build strong community identities, promote accountability, and give a voice to people where it matters most. By celebrating excellence at a local level, confidence in these talents grows, new partnerships form, and development follows. The Nile Excellence Awards highlighted that recognising local achievement is not just about awards—it is about empowering communities and fostering sustainable growth.
As a regulator, UCC believes that creativity must thrive in an environment of trust, professionalism, and fair access. Whether one is based in Kampala, Tororo, Mbale, or Busia, every creative should have the opportunity to flourish without barriers. Bbossa’s words underscored that inclusivity and support are essential for nurturing talent across the country.
To the winners of the evening, congratulations. To the nominees, persistence and dedication are key—your work matters. And to the organisers, thank you for intentionally creating a platform that celebrates diversity, creativity, and excellence in Eastern Uganda.
The night in Tororo served as a reminder that recognition is powerful. It uplifts individuals, strengthens communities, and sets the stage for a future where talent is acknowledged everywhere, not just in major cities.
