Tensions flared in Ntungamo Municipality after Member of Parliament Yona Musinguzi was seriously injured during a violent confrontation at All Saints Church polling station. The incident happened around 2 p.m. when MP Musinguzi arrived at the station with a group of his supporters. According to eyewitnesses, he attempted to enter the polling station forcefully, but rival supporters blocked him, leading to a heated scuffle.
In the chaos that followed, someone reportedly struck the MP on the head with a sharp object. The injury left him bleeding, and he had to be rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for urgent medical treatment. His current condition remains unclear, but the injury was described as serious.
What has shocked many is the absence of any security personnel at the time of the incident. With no police or security presence to manage the situation, the confrontation quickly turned violent, raising concerns about the safety of both voters and candidates during elections.
The incident highlights the growing political tension in the region and the urgent need for better security at polling stations. Many citizens are calling on the Electoral Commission and security agencies to step up and ensure that voting areas are safe for everyone involved.
As investigations continue, the people of Ntungamo—and Uganda at large—wait to hear more about MP Musinguzi’s recovery and what steps will be taken to prevent such violence from happening again.
