Court Says No to Bail!! Besigye and Others Told to Try High Court

Must read

Court has declined to grant bail to prominent opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye, along with Hajji Obeid Lutale and Capt. Denis Oola. The court said it does not have the legal authority, also known as jurisdiction, to handle their request for mandatory bail.

This decision surprised many people, especially supporters of the three men who were hoping for their immediate release.

The court explained that even though the defence team made a strong argument for bail, the matter is beyond its power. Instead, the judge advised that the application should be taken to the High Court, which has the proper authority to hear and decide on such cases.

This move means the trio will have to remain in custody a bit longer as their legal team prepares the next steps.

Dr. Besigye is well-known for his long-standing role in Ugandan politics and his repeated attempts to challenge the current leadership.

His arrest, along with Lutale and Oola, has raised questions and sparked debate across the country. Some people believe the charges are politically motivated, while others are calling for due process and transparency in handling the case.

Supporters gathered outside the court hoping for good news, but the ruling left many disappointed. Legal experts say that while the court followed the law, the issue now becomes whether the High Court will handle the bail application quickly and fairly.

For now, the eyes of the nation are on the High Court, as the next phase of this high-profile case unfolds.
