Must read

The Opposition leader Bobi Wine’s bodyguard, Edward Sebuufu, alias Eddie Mutwe has been remanded to Murchison Bay hospital in Luzira prison after court denied him bail.

Eddie Mutwe was today presented before this court shivering and shaken as he displays alleged torture marks during his court appearance before Grade One Magistrate Abdallah Kayizza in Masaka on May 20, 2025.

He earlier told court that he had been electrocuted, waterboarded, and beaten while in military custody.

Eddie Mutwe through his legal team said, he is given 12 pain killers a day, as he grapples with immense pain adding that its all the prisons authorities can afford to offer to him.

Edward Sebufu with three other National Unity Platform members are charged with aggravated robbery, with prosecution alleging that on April 24, 2025, in Masaka District, they violently robbed a civilian of cash and a mobile phone during a post-burial procession, using force and threatening violence.

Their legal team — led by human rights lawyers Samuel Muyizzi Mulindwa, Benjamin Katana, and George Musisi have tried to challenge the basis of the charges and petition the court for bail, citing prolonged detention and alleged human rights violations.

Earlier this month, the Uganda Human Rights Commission issued a release order for Eddie Mutwe, declaring his detention unlawful. The military, however, rejected the directive, with Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba responding defiantly and demanding an apology from the Commission.
