A shocking murder has rocked the community of Gallilaya, Kyembogo Sub-County in Kyenjojo District, Rwenzori West. On the night of October 9, 2025, unknown assailants attacked John Tumuhairwe at his home and killed him. The attackers allegedly removed his head and disappeared, leaving the community in fear and confusion.
The following morning, the case was reported to Kasaba Police Station by Cman LC1 Galilaya, Mr. Tukashaba Joseph. Police officers immediately informed the District Police Commander (DPC) and the Officer in Charge (OC) of CID, who quickly organized a team, including a specialized canine unit, to investigate the crime scene. Upon arrival, the scene was well preserved by local police, allowing the investigation to proceed smoothly.
The sniffer dog, Cuba (Apuuli), led by Corporal Abaihayo, played a critical role in tracking the suspects. The dog followed the scent from the crime scene to the home of Mzee Kandoole, where it discovered blood-stained trousers. The tracking continued to the house of Alex, Kandoole’s son, who had already fled the scene. The trail ultimately led to Gallilaya Primary School, where the head of the deceased was recovered. Since the school was on holiday, no one was present there.
Alex Kandoole was later arrested while hiding in Gallilaya Trading Center. His body was found with bruises, confirming a violent confrontation. The police successfully recovered the head of the deceased and conducted community policing to reassure residents and maintain peace in the area.
The gruesome case highlights the efficiency of coordinated police work, including the use of canine units in criminal investigations. The suspect is now in custody, and further investigations continue. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as authorities work to ensure safety in the community.
