Must read

Residents of Mbuya woke up to shock and fear after Kaija Doreen, the Head of the National Unity Platform (NUP) School of Leadership and the party’s flag bearer for Nakawa East, was abducted from her home. Armed men driving two drones and a Uganda Police Force patrol pickup reportedly stormed her residence, forcefully taking her away before speeding off to an unknown location.

The sudden incident has caused concern among opposition supporters and the wider public. Kaija Doreen is a prominent figure within NUP, known for her active role in leadership training and her strong presence in Nakawa East politics. Her disappearance has raised questions about the safety of political leaders, especially those in the opposition.

Eyewitnesses say the abduction was swift and frightening, as the armed men surrounded her home, leaving residents too terrified to intervene. Family members and neighbours watched helplessly as she was bundled into the vehicles and driven away. At the time of reporting, her whereabouts remained unknown.

NUP members and supporters have expressed deep worry over the incident, describing it as a targeted attack meant to silence vocal leaders within the party. Calls are growing for the authorities to immediately account for her safety and ensure her release. Some members have also pointed out that such acts create fear and threaten Uganda’s democratic space.

Kaija Doreen’s abduction adds to a growing list of opposition leaders who have faced arrests, harassment, and unexplained disappearances in recent times. Human rights groups are likely to take interest in the case, as concerns about political freedom and respect for the rule of law continue to dominate national debate.

As tension builds, the public awaits an official statement from both the Uganda Police Force and government authorities on the matter. For now, uncertainty surrounds the fate of the NUP leader, with her supporters holding onto hope for her safe return.
