“Millions Of Ugandans Requested Me To Stay” President Museveni On Why He Is Seeking Another Term In Office

Must read

President Yoweri Museveni has announced that he will run for another term in the 2026 elections. According to him, the decision was not just his alone. He says millions of Ugandans have asked him to stay and continue leading the country. The popular phrase “Tova ku main”—which means “don’t leave the main line”—has become a message from his supporters, urging him not to step aside. Museveni says this strong support from the public played a big role in his decision to stay in the race.

Museveni, who has been in power for decades, gave two main reasons for seeking another term. First, he wants to keep working with his ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), to improve Uganda in key areas. These include keeping peace and security, fixing roads and providing electricity, creating jobs, improving public services, and opening up bigger markets for Ugandans. He says these goals are important to make sure Uganda moves forward and doesn’t get left behind like it did in the past when Europe developed faster than Africa.

His second reason is about long-term development. Museveni says he wants to help lift Uganda’s economy from lower middle-income status to a higher level. The country’s GDP is expected to hit $66 billion by June 2026, but he believes it can grow even more—to $500 billion in the years to come. He also says he wants to guide and mentor the next generation of leaders who can carry this vision forward. He believes this growth will not only help Uganda, but could also inspire the rest of Africa.

Museveni made it clear that his decision is not just about staying in power, but about guiding the country to a better future. While critics may raise questions about how long he has led the country, his supporters believe he still has the experience and vision that Uganda needs right now.

As the election season draws near, many Ugandans will be watching closely. Will they continue to trust Museveni with the future of the nation, or will they seek a new direction? Whatever the outcome, Museveni says he is ready to serve because the people asked him to.
