Museveni Submits Nomination Forms as Security Arrests 16 Over Alleged Disruption Plot

Must read

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially submitted his nomination forms to run for the position of NRM Chairman and Presidential Flag bearer. The event took place at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party headquarters on Kyadondo Plot 13, located in Nakasero II Parish, Kampala. This move confirmed Museveni’s intention to contest again for Uganda’s top office under the ruling party.

In anticipation of the high-profile event, security agencies were placed on high alert. Comprehensive threat assessments were carried out, and heavy deployments were made across Kampala to ensure the event proceeded smoothly. The security strategy included both foot and motorized patrols. Undercover officers were positioned at key locations, while a quick response team remained on standby, ready to act in case of any disturbances.

Despite the strong security presence, authorities reported the arrest of 16 suspects. These individuals were allegedly planning to cause chaos in the city during the event. Police said they were caught smoking opium and are currently detained at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects’ files are being prepared for legal action.

Fortunately, the nomination exercise concluded without any major incidents. The area around the NRM headquarters remained peaceful throughout the day. However, security officials say they are still monitoring the situation closely and will continue their intelligence operations to prevent any future threats.

Museveni’s submission of nomination forms marks a significant step in the NRM’s preparations for the 2026 general elections and signals yet another chapter in the long-serving president’s political journey.
