NUP Secretary General Rubongoya Eyes Kla Central MP Seat Ahead of 2026 Elections

Must read

David Lewis Rubongoya, the Secretary General of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has officially declared his interest to contest for the Kampala Central Division parliamentary seat. On Monday, he returned his expression of interest forms at the NUP party offices located in Makerere Kavule.

The news of Rubongoya’s decision has excited many NUP supporters, as he is known for being a passionate and fearless leader in Uganda’s opposition politics. He has been one of the key voices behind NUP’s message of change, justice, and people power. Now, he wants to take that voice directly to Parliament.

Speaking after returning his forms, Rubongoya said he is ready to represent the people of Kampala Central and make sure their voices are heard. “Kampala Central needs strong leadership that listens, speaks up, and stands with the people,” he said. “I am not just coming as a politician. I am coming as a servant of the people.”

Rubongoya has played a major role in building and organizing NUP across the country, working closely with party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine. His deep knowledge of the political system and experience in national leadership gives him a strong foundation as he steps into this race.

Kampala Central is one of the most politically active and diverse constituencies in the country. It includes areas like Nakasero, Kisenyi, Kololo, and parts of the city center. It has long been a hotbed of political debate, activism, and high-profile contests. With Rubongoya joining the race, the competition is expected to grow even more intense.

Many people are now watching to see how the NUP will handle the race internally and which other candidates might also express interest. But for now, Rubongoya’s entry has given the NUP base in Kampala a fresh sense of energy and direction.

His message is clear he wants to take the struggle for change from the streets to Parliament, and he believes the time is now.
