Must read

The 11th parliament has denied the alleged payment of Shs 100m to a section of legislators as has been circulating on different media platforms.

According to the statement released by the parliament on its X handle, the clerk to parliament Hon Adolf Mwesigye has not processed any such payments.

“There are claims on social media regarding alleged payments of Shs100m to MPs. The public is advised that Parliament makes statutory payments to MPs processed by the Clerk to Parliament & reflected on their individual payslips. The Clerk has not process,ed any such payments.”The post reads.

This followed the message posted by the leader of opposition Rt Hon Joel Ssenyonyi about money exchanging hands.

“We’ve learnt that there is money which is surreptitiously exchanging hands in Parliament. Information reaching us is that they are giving each NRM MP (and a few selected opposition MPs) 100m shs each, as appreciation for the coffee bill that was passed, and also in readiness for the proposed amendment to the UPDF Act which will seek to cement the trial of civilians in the Court Martial in spite of the Supreme Court ruling.
Our Country needs a reboot.” Said Ssenyonyi.

It is alleged that a section of legislators from the NRM party, joined by their ‘friendly’ opposition and independent counterparts, received a financial bailout between Monday night and Tuesday morning which has raised public debate.
