Must read

Ninety officers from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have successfully completed the Grade III Staff Course at the Junior Staff College located in Gaddafi Barracks, Jinja City. These officers came from different units and formations across the UPDF, showing the Force’s commitment to building skilled leaders at all levels.

The graduation ceremony was a proud moment for the officers and the entire UPDF. Major General James Kinalwa, who is in charge of Joint Staff – Human Resource Management, spoke at the event and praised the training program as a key investment in the future of the army. He stressed that training should not be seen as a cost, but as an important investment in people who serve the country. “We have trained and equipped tactical-level commanders with vital skills. This will help the UPDF grow stronger and more effective,” he said.

Maj Gen Kinalwa also encouraged the graduates to make good use of the knowledge and skills they had gained. He urged them to lead with moral courage, think critically, and work well with others. “This is a big step forward in your careers,” he told them. “Don’t keep what you’ve learned to yourselves. Share it and lead by example. In the UPDF, we work as a team.”

Brigadier General Chris Ogwal, the Commandant of the Junior Staff College, also spoke highly of the group, which included ten female officers. He said the 37th Intake had been well-trained and was now ready to take on tactical command roles. He advised them to go back to their units and train others, helping to build leadership across the Force.

Two officers stood out for their exceptional performance. Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Musamali was praised for his strong leadership, while Major Christian Agaba was awarded the title of best all-around student.

The ceremony was attended by several top UPDF leaders, including Brig Gen Michael Ssozi Ssesanga, Brig Gen Wakayinja, Col Chris Kyanku, and Col Susan Mwanga. Other dignitaries present included Senior Superintendent of Prisons Deogratious Ogwangpit and Senior Superintendent of Police Muzira, who represented the Regional Police Commander. Many other senior and junior officers from the Jinja cantonment also attended the event to show their support.

This graduation marks a key moment in the development of the UPDF. With skilled, trained officers ready to lead, the Force is continuing to grow stronger, more capable, and more united in its mission to serve and protect the nation.
