Top Story!! Minister Nabakooba Stops Land Activities In Nakaseke, Orders Investigations Over Disputes

Must read

The Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, has ordered a stop to all activities on disputed land in Nakaseke District. She made the directive during a meeting on April 30 in Muwaluzi and Wabitunda villages, asking the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), RoseMary Byabashaija, to investigate and report back in a month.

The land in question covers Block 321 (plots 2, 3, and 4) and Block 784 in Bulemeezi County. It has long been under dispute, with both Buganda and Bunyoro kingdoms claiming ownership. Local leaders say residents settled on the land after the 1980s war and believed it was public land.

Some landlords have allegedly used forged or unclear land titles to evict squatters, destroy crops, and arrest residents. An elderly man and other families were chased from their land, while others like Margaret Nalubega say they were promised titles but never received them.

Minister Nabakooba said no landlord should return to the land until investigations are done and ordered police to protect the residents. She added that a special committee will be formed to review and cancel questionable titles.

Nakaseke’s MP and local leaders praised the minister’s visit and asked the government to help buy land for the affected families through the Land Fund, as done in other districts.
