Residents of Makindye-Ssabagabo are appealing to the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its leader, Bobi Wine, to support Hon. Joseph Mukasa instead of the current MP, David Serukenya. Locals say their trust in Serukenya has eroded since he assumed office, claiming that his parliamentary office remained closed for months after the elections, leaving them with no avenue to seek assistance or raise concerns.
People in the constituency say Serukenya has largely stayed silent on critical local issues and matters in Parliament, creating a sense of neglect and frustration among residents. In contrast, Hon. Joseph Mukasa has been actively involved in the community long before any campaign period. Locals describe him as a hands-on leader who engages with residents, listens to their problems, and delivers meaningful support that impacts daily life.
Mukasa has extended help through his NGO, HELP Uganda, running multiple community outreach programs. He has visited areas such as Zanta, Kanaaba, Busabala, Seguku, and Kigo, providing essentials like bread, water, soda, and soap to families in need. Additionally, he supports small local initiatives and private projects, showing care for those often overlooked. Residents note that Mukasa’s contributions through HELP Uganda reflect genuine community service rather than political campaigning.
Church groups and other organizations have also benefited from Mukasa’s involvement. His fundraising efforts and hands-on approach have helped strengthen community bonds, earning him admiration and loyalty. Many believe Mukasa has the leadership skills and commitment necessary to represent them effectively in Parliament and bring practical improvements to their lives.
The contrast between the two leaders has led locals to rally behind Mukasa. While Serukenya is criticized for being absent and unresponsive, Mukasa is praised for being present, approachable, and proactive—a leader who truly understands the struggles of his people.
As one resident put it, “We do not want an MP who disappears after winning elections. We want someone who walks with us, speaks for us, and brings real change. That is why we are choosing Joseph Mukasa.”
Residents of Makindye-Ssabagabo are now urging Bobi Wine and NUP to acknowledge their concerns and support Mukasa, hoping for leadership that genuinely serves the people, not just appears during campaign season.
