Kampala is in shock following the tragic murder of a young woman, Nakiwolo Sophia, a well-known mobile money and bank agent operating along Nasser Road. The 28-year-old was found lying in a pool of blood on the evening of June 28th, 2025, outside her shop located at Freedom House, Shop No. K-618 on Nkrumah Road. Her sudden death has sparked public outcry and debate on social media, with many pointing fingers at a criminal gang known as “Kifeesi.” However, police investigations are revealing a different and more complex story.
At around 7:20 PM, the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala received a report about a stabbing incident. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that Sophia had been brutally attacked while closing her day’s business. According to initial reports, she was balancing her transactions when the incident occurred. Shockingly, she had been stabbed and was pushed outside the shop where she collapsed. A knife stained with fresh blood was later recovered from inside the shop.
One of the key individuals in the case is Nickson Elizah, who worked alongside Sophia. He claims that two unknown attackers entered the shop, stabbed Sophia, and injured him on the leg while he tried to defend her. He also said that the attackers ran off with his phone. However, this version of events is now being questioned by investigators.
Two nearby security guards gave statements that cast doubt on Elizah’s account. They said they heard screams from inside the shop but saw no one running away. They claimed that when they responded, they found Nickson pushing the injured woman out of the shop. Afterward, he sat back inside as if nothing had happened. This strange behavior raised suspicions. A crowd soon gathered and began beating Elizah, believing he was responsible. Police arrived just in time to rescue him, and he was taken to Mulago Hospital under guard due to the serious injuries he suffered from the mob beating.
Police arrested two suspects, including Nickson Elizah and another man named Ssemakula Abdu. The case has since been recorded as murder by stabbing at Nkrumah Road Police Station. Investigations are still ongoing as detectives try to piece together exactly what happened and who is responsible.
Authorities have also clarified that this incident is separate from recent robberies carried out by groups of youth in the area. The killing of Sophia was not linked to these daytime crimes but is being treated as a unique and serious case.
As police continue their investigations, friends, family, and the public await justice for Nakiwolo Sophia. Her death has left a dark cloud over Nasser Road, and many are hoping that the truth will soon be revealed and those responsible held accountable.
