Dear fellow Ugandans,
I, Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza, Bukono County MP-elect, address you today with a heavy yet hopeful heart.
I am profoundly glad that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, has finally stepped forward to fight corruption within Parliament. At Kyankwanzi, the President made it crystal clear: we cannot have a corrupt Parliament that purports to oversee all government institutions.
This is a strong and timely stand, a good start for the new term. I pray that we all work hand in hand with the President to seriously confront and defeat this destructive vice once and for all.
For years,
I have stood out and spoken boldly against corruption in Parliament while many Members of Parliament, Ministers, friends, and government workers chose to look the other way or worse, remained in bed with the corrupt.
This is nothing short of betrayal of the very President who supported and lifted so many of them to the positions they hold today. Their actions have not left the President the same. Every scandal is quickly seized upon by foreign agents and the opposition and attributed directly to him, tarnishing the image of a leader who has sacrificed everything for this nation.
Let me be clear, dear Ugandans: we are not all corrupt. It is only a few ungrateful individuals at the centre of this vice who have brought shame upon our institutions.
A number of times you have witnessed with your own eyes how these same corrupt forces fought me relentlessly, trying to silence me. Yet I have never bowed down, and I never will.
This is not a fight for personal position. It is a fight for the good of our motherland Uganda. We cannot allow the tireless work of President Museveni and all the patriots who built this nation to be wasted by the greed of a small circle.
I therefore call upon every Ugandan, the general public, the youth, the elders, the professionals, and all patriots to rise up and help save the President’s image and the image of our beloved country. Let us speak with one voice. Let us stand together and declare that enough is enough.
Together, hand in hand with our President, we shall defeat corruption and restore the dignity of Parliament and the nation.
God bless Uganda. God bless President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa.
With faith, courage and unwavering patriotism,
Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza
