The President of Uganda, H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has granted an official burial to the late statesman and celebrated performing arts figure, Alex Edward Kabangala Mukulu.
The decision is a significant recognition of Mukulu’s contribution to Uganda, particularly in the performing arts industry, where he made a lasting impact through his work and service to the country.
According to a communication from BMB, the National Organising Committee (N.O.C) is already engaging with the bereaved family to organise a befitting send-off for the fallen statesman. The burial is scheduled for August 20, 2026, in Kijabijjo, Gayaza.
The official burial is expected to bring together family members, friends, colleagues in the performing arts industry, government officials and other Ugandans who knew and appreciated Mukulu’s contribution to society.
Mukulu’s death has been met with grief across the country, especially among people in the creative and performing arts sector. His colleagues and friends have continued to remember him for the mark he left on Uganda’s cultural and artistic landscape.
The granting of an official burial by President Museveni is seen as a national honour for a man whose life and work contributed to Uganda’s performing arts and public life. It also provides an opportunity for the country to celebrate his contribution as he is given his final send-off.
The N.O.C has extended condolences to Mukulu’s family, friends, colleagues in the performing arts industry and Ugandans at large during this difficult time.
As preparations for the burial continue, the country will gather in Kijabijjo on August 20 to pay its final respects to Alex Edward Kabangala Mukulu and honour the legacy he leaves behind.
