Unity Across Party Lines and Regional Inclusivity

Must read

Dear fellow Ugandans,

I, Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza, Bukono County MP-elect, focus on a powerful foundation for a renewed Parliament: genuine unity across party lines and true regional inclusivity.
The overwhelming endorsement by over 150 NRM MPs from Buganda, Busoga, Lango, Bunyoro, West Nile, Tooro, and Teso is not an accident, it is a clear message from the heart of our nation. It shows that Ugandans across every region are ready for leadership that unites rather than divides, that listens to every voice, and that puts Uganda first.
Since independence in 1962, our Parliament has seen Speakers who worked to hold the House together. Yet recent years brought polarisation, selective treatment, and regional tensions that weakened the institution and hurt our national image. This does not reflect the spirit of unity our liberators fought for.
Across Africa and the world, exemplary Speakers have shown us the way. In Ghana, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin has become a symbol of unity by consistently bridging party divides, promoting consensus even in a hung Parliament, and ensuring every region and every side feels heard and respected. In South Africa, the late Dr. Frene Ginwala and Speaker Thoko Didiza turned a once-divided House into an inclusive institution that healed historical wounds through fairness and broad participation. In the United Kingdom, Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle fiercely protects the rights of all Members regardless of party, maintaining the House as a model of national unity.

As Speaker, I will lead a Parliament where unity is not just a slogan but a daily practice. Every region will have a voice. Every party, NRM, opposition, or independent will be treated with fairness and respect. No group will be marginalised. Our House will become a true reflection of one Uganda, working together for one people.

This is not a fight for personal position. It is a fight for the good of our motherland Uganda. The men and women who went to the bush under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa sacrificed for freedom, justice, and national unity not so that divisions could weaken the institution they built. We cannot sit and watch the tireless work of NRM leadership and all patriots who have developed our nation be wasted. We must speak up. We must set an example for the young generation. We must restore the dignity of our nation.
Unity in Parliament will strengthen our democracy and accelerate Uganda’s progress.

With faith, patriotism, and unbreakable resolve,
Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza
Bukono County MP-elect & Aspirant for Speaker of the 12th Parliament
