Julius Mwebaze, a senior official in Rubirizi District, has been suspended for six months due to allegations of negligence and corruption. This suspension comes after charges were filed against him under Criminal Case No. CO-0150/26, accusing him of failing to carry out his official duties as required by the Penal Code Act.
A letter from the Chief Administrative Officer, Paul Samuel Mbiiwa, confirmed that Mwebaze’s suspension would take immediate effect to ensure that the ongoing investigations and court proceedings are not interfered with. The terms of the suspension state that Mwebaze is prohibited from accessing his office without authorization and cannot leave the country without permission. Furthermore, he has been directed to hand over office responsibilities and will receive half of his salary during the suspension, in line with the Public Service Standing Orders.
Amon Muhereza, the District Communications Officer, clarified that this action is purely administrative and does not imply guilt. The case remains under judicial review, and Mwebaze’s fate will be determined based on the court’s proceedings.
This suspension comes as part of broader efforts to address corruption and ensure accountability within the local government systems. Further updates are expected as the case progresses in court.
