Police in Busia District are investigating a suspected murder by assault following the death of a female police officer who was found dead inside her rented room in Busiwondo B village, Dabani Sub-county.
According to initial reports recorded at Busia Police Station, the incident was first reported on 12/06/2026 at around 2349 hours after residents raised concern over the sudden death of No. 39468 D/Sgt Magoba Florence, a female officer attached to Busia Central Police Station (CPS). The matter was later escalated under CRB 527/2026 for further investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that the deceased had been in a romantic relationship with a civilian identified as Kato Sam, a resident of the same area. It is alleged that the two had been living together as husband and wife prior to the incident. On the morning of the same day, the couple reportedly had a quarrel inside their room, although it was not considered serious at the time.
However, tragedy struck later that night when, at around 2300 hours, the lifeless body of the officer was discovered inside their room. The discovery prompted immediate reporting to Dabani Police Station, which later informed Busia CPS for further action.
Police homicide officers together with Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) visited and documented the scene. The body was found lying horizontally on a mattress and covered with bedsheets. Authorities reported that no visible external injuries were observed at the time of examination, although a full post-mortem is required to determine the exact cause of death.
The body was later transported to Busia Health Centre IV mortuary, awaiting further transfer to Mbale City Mortuary for a detailed post-mortem examination. Police confirmed that one suspect has already been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations.
Investigators also noted that the deceased and the suspect had been cohabiting, and background checks revealed claims of a challenging personal lifestyle, including alleged alcohol use. However, authorities emphasized that these details remain part of the ongoing inquiry and do not establish the cause of death.
Police have stated that investigations are still underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death, with a post-mortem expected to provide crucial answers. More updates are anticipated as the case develops.
