Students at Greenhill Academy were treated to an exciting and educational experience as different directorates of the Uganda Police Force showcased the equipment, technologies and services they use to maintain peace, security and public safety during the school’s Career Day.
The event gave learners a rare opportunity to interact with police officers and see firsthand the tools and modern technologies used in law enforcement. The exhibition aimed to help students better understand the important role the police play in protecting communities and keeping the country safe.
One of the main attractions was the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, which displayed a wide range of road safety gadgets, traffic enforcement technologies and public education materials. Officers explained how these tools are used to monitor traffic, enforce road laws and reduce road crashes across the country.
Students were also taken through demonstrations showing how traffic officers detect traffic offences, respond to emergencies and promote safe road use. The interactive sessions gave learners practical knowledge about the daily work of the Traffic Police and the importance of following road safety rules.
“Career Days provide us with an important opportunity to engage young people and help them understand the importance of road safety. By exposing learners to the technologies and equipment used by the Traffic Police, we are not only educating them on how we keep our roads safe but also inspiring them to become responsible road users and future ambassadors for road safety. Every life matters, and building a culture of safety starts with educating the younger generation,” said Michael Kananura, the Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson.
Police officials said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to educate young people about road safety from an early age. By engaging learners in schools, the force hopes to nurture a generation that understands the value of responsible road use and respects traffic laws.
The exhibition also encouraged students to think about careers in law enforcement and public service. Officers shared experiences from their work and explained the different roles available within the Uganda Police Force, inspiring many learners to consider serving their country in the future.
According to the police, educating young people is one of the most effective ways of reducing road accidents and improving public safety. They believe informed and responsible citizens can make a significant contribution to safer roads and more secure communities.
The Career Day exhibition highlighted the Uganda Police Force’s commitment to community engagement and public awareness. Through such outreach programmes, the police continue to strengthen relationships with the public while promoting safety, responsibility and respect for the law.
Police called on everyone to work together in promoting road safety, emphasizing that creating safer roads is a shared responsibility involving law enforcement, schools, parents and all road users.
