Vivo Energy Uganda Donates 500 Child Helmets to Boost Road Safety Efforts

Must read

The Uganda Traffic Police have expressed strong appreciation to Vivo Energy Uganda after the company donated 500 child crash helmets aimed at improving road safety for young passengers who use motorcycles across the country. The donation has been described as a timely and important contribution to ongoing efforts to reduce injuries and deaths on Uganda’s roads, especially among children.

According to the Traffic Police, the helmets will play a key role in protecting children who travel as passengers on motorcycles, one of the most common forms of transport in Uganda. Many children are often exposed to serious risks when riding without proper protective gear. The new helmets are expected to encourage parents and guardians to prioritize safety whenever they are travelling with children on boda bodas.

The police also highlighted encouraging findings from the 2025 Annual Crime Report, which showed that fatalities among children aged 5 to 17 years reduced by 9%. This improvement is partly linked to continuous road safety sensitization programs led by Uganda Police Force, working together with different partners to educate children about safe road use and responsible behavior on the roads.

These programs have been actively engaging schools and communities, helping children understand basic road safety rules such as wearing helmets, crossing roads carefully, and avoiding dangerous riding practices. The introduction of the donated helmets is expected to strengthen these efforts further by ensuring that awareness is matched with real protective equipment.

The Uganda Traffic Police commended Vivo Energy Uganda for its commitment to corporate social responsibility and for supporting national efforts to create safer roads. They emphasized that partnerships between government and private sector players are essential in achieving long-term change and reducing preventable road accidents.

Authorities believe that continued collaboration, public education, and increased access to safety gear will help sustain the positive trend already being recorded. They reaffirmed their commitment to protecting all road users, especially vulnerable children who are most affected by road accidents.
