The long-running debate over who truly belongs to the family of late Kadongo Kamu music icon Paul Kafeero has finally been settled after DNA tests confirmed that only four out of 25 individuals who claimed to be his children are biologically related to him.
The results were officially released at Naguru Police Headquarters following a forensic exercise aimed at resolving years of uncertainty and competing paternity claims. The exercise attracted significant public attention because of Kafeero’s legendary status in Uganda’s music industry and the large number of people who had come forward over the years claiming to be his children.
According to the DNA findings, the four individuals confirmed as Paul Kafeero’s biological children are Kafeero Bendicto, Kafeero Simon Peter, Kafeero Thomas, and Nagawa Elizabeth. Their identities were verified through scientific testing conducted by experts from the Police Forensic Directorate and the Government Analytical Laboratory.
DNA results also kicked him out.
The verification process was overseen by Minister Balaam Barugahara, who witnessed the release of the results alongside key government officials. Among those involved were Government Analytical Laboratory Director Andrew Mubiru and forensic expert Kepher Kuchana Kateu, who played important roles in ensuring the credibility and transparency of the exercise.
The DNA testing was carried out to put an end to the many claims that had emerged since Kafeero’s death. For years, different individuals had publicly identified themselves as his children, creating confusion among family members, fans, and the public. The scientific investigation was therefore seen as the most reliable way to establish the truth and provide clarity.
The results have now brought closure to a matter that had remained unresolved for a long time. While only four claimants were confirmed as biological children, the findings are expected to help settle family disputes and preserve the legacy of one of Uganda’s most celebrated musicians. Many fans hope that the outcome will allow the verified family members to honor Kafeero’s memory without further controversy.
