Kampala Metropolitan Police, working together with other security agencies, has intensified intelligence-led operations aimed at fighting crime and improving safety across the Kampala Metropolitan area. These coordinated operations are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities and bring suspects to justice.
On 1st June 2026, a major operation was carried out in several identified crime hotspots within Katwe, Nateete, Kajjansi, and CPS Kampala Divisions. The joint team, including officers from CPS Kampala, Kajjansi, Kabalagala, and Nateete Police Divisions, conducted the exercise between 9:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. during the night. This timing was chosen to target suspected criminal hideouts and reduce chances of escape.

During the operation, a total of 280 suspects were arrested from different locations identified through intelligence as crime-prone areas. According to security authorities, all the suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine their level of involvement in criminal activities. Those found with cases to answer will be charged in accordance with the law.
Police also recovered several exhibits during the operation. These included suspected narcotic drugs, shisha pots, dangerous weapons, and television sets believed to be linked to criminal activity. Authorities say these items will undergo further investigation as part of efforts to build strong cases against offenders and dismantle possible criminal networks.
In a separate but related operation, officers from Nansana Police Division also carried out intelligence-led raids in Katooke, Nabweru, Kyebando, and Yesu Amala. This second operation led to the arrest of 35 additional suspects, who are also being screened by investigators.
In total, 315 suspects were arrested in both coordinated operations, marking one of the significant recent crackdowns on crime within the region. Security officials say such operations are expected to continue in order to deter criminal behavior and improve public safety.
The Uganda Police Force, through its intelligence-led strategy, says it remains committed to disrupting criminal networks and ensuring that communities are protected. According to police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal, these operations are part of a broader effort to maintain law and order across the country.
