The Electoral Commission of Uganda has officially started a five-day nationwide exercise aimed at updating the voters register ahead of the upcoming Local Council One (LC I) and Women Council elections. The exercise is being carried out across the country and is intended to ensure that all eligible voters are properly registered and their details are up to date.
According to the Commission, this update is an important step in preparing for smooth and credible elections. It allows citizens to confirm their voting status, correct any errors in their details, and make sure they are included in the final voters list that will be used during the elections.
The EC spokesperson, Julius Mucunguzi, has called on all eligible Ugandans to actively take part in the exercise. He emphasized that participation is key, warning that those who fail to update their information risk being left out of the voting process during the upcoming LC I and Women Council elections.
He further noted that the exercise is designed to improve accuracy in the voters register and reduce challenges that often arise during elections, such as missing names or incorrect voter details. He encouraged citizens to take advantage of the limited five-day window to ensure they are fully registered.
The Electoral Commission also reminded the public that the voters register is a crucial part of the democratic process. It determines who is allowed to vote and helps ensure that elections are conducted in an orderly and transparent manner.
Across the country, registration centers have been set up to make the process easier and more accessible for citizens. Officials are expected to assist voters in verifying their information and making necessary updates where needed.
The Commission urged all Ugandans who are eligible to vote, especially young people and first-time voters, to participate in the exercise. It stressed that failure to update voter details within the given period could result in missing out on the opportunity to take part in the upcoming elections.
