Police in Nsangi have recovered a stolen motorcycle and another bike believed to have been used by suspected robbers who attacked a boda boda rider in a carefully planned ambush along the Mpigi Bypass in Wakiso District.
The incident occurred on the night of July 15, 2026, at Muzinda Cell in Nsangi–Kyengera Town Council. According to police, the victim, a boda boda rider, had picked up a passenger from Stabex Petrol Station in Nansana at about 8:40 p.m. The passenger reportedly requested to be taken to Nsangi before directing the rider to continue along the Katereke–Muzinda Road.
As they travelled through a deserted and bushy section of the road near the Mpigi Bypass, the rider encountered what investigators believe was a pre-arranged trap. Two unidentified men had allegedly stretched a rope across the road in an attempt to stop the motorcycle.
Before the rider could react, the passenger allegedly grabbed him by the neck, allowing the two waiting suspects to pull him off the motorcycle. The attackers then made off with the motorcycle while the passenger escaped into nearby bushes, suggesting he was part of the robbery plot.
The victim later reported the incident to police, prompting an immediate response from officers at Nsangi Police Station. Detectives launched a search operation and began tracking the stolen motorcycle.
A few hours later, police recovered the stolen motorcycle, registration number UMA 895GN, after it had been abandoned in Kasenge Zone, Kikajo Ward, Kyengera Town Council. The recovery was welcomed as a significant breakthrough in the case.
During the operation, police also recovered another motorcycle, registration number UDJ 362B, black in colour, which investigators believe may have been used by the suspects during the robbery. The motorcycle has since been taken into police custody as investigations continue.
Police have intensified efforts to identify, trace and arrest all individuals involved in the attack. Detectives are following several leads and gathering evidence that could help bring the suspects to justice.
The incident highlights the growing risks faced by boda boda riders, particularly when transporting unfamiliar passengers at night. Security officials have urged riders to remain vigilant, be cautious when accepting late-night trips to isolated areas and promptly report suspicious activity.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the recovery of the motorcycles and said investigations are ongoing to ensure all those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
