Hundreds Of Funs Throng Nakawa As UCC Celebrates 13th Edition Of Uganda Film Festival

On Friday, all reads heading to Nakawa were full of jam as hundreds of people including Musicians, Socialites, Event Managers, political leaders, Tiktokers, journalists,Celebrities among others joined the Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) as the Institution celebrated it’s 13 th Edition of Film Festival .


The road jam started as early as 4:00pm when the visitors started arriving for the award giving event. As Visitors arrived,they were welcomed by nice looking ushers and were taken to nice looking tables and were served with all sorts of Nyamachoma, drinks of all kinds and enjoyed the love live Music for close to two hours and they were heavily guarded by different security agencies both in Uniform and plain cloth.

At around 7:00pm, the first category of award giving started. They included the Best Supporting Actor on TV drama, Best supporting Actress on TV Drama, Best student Film,Best post production feature film, Best Costume in feature film,Best production design in feature film among others. The winners were given awards and the cheque of Shs 3m.


At around 9:00pm, all Guests were called in the main tent as the function started. Before the second phase of award giving started, guests were entertained by Musician Messach Ssemakula for over 20 Minutes. The even was presided over by State Minister of local Government Hon Justine Namere who represented ICT Minister Justine Kasule Lumumba. At around 10:00pm the second category of Award winners were also read and they included, Best Documentary,Best Short film, Best Animation Film,Best Regional Film,Best Actor in a TV drama, Best screen play, Festival Champion, Lifetime Film festival achievement among others. The winners of this category were given awards and money ranging between Shs 5m to Shs 20m.


In his speech, the Executive Director of UCC Hon Nyombi Thembo said UCC has supported the Film festival for 13 years. “Supporting film is an investment that has created jobs in the entertainment industry which has contributed to National Development,” he says adding the idea was started by former UCC ED Eng. Godfrey Mutabazi. Nyombi Thembo further says film makers will earn from their films. He also says UCC will keep fighting pirous because they are robbing our jobs and future talents.


The Chief Guest while giving her remarks says she became famous to the public because of the film. “I came to be known to the public because of the Documentary film I used to run on NTV and Bukedde TV. She also assured UCC of more funding in film making festival. “We need to award the winners with like Shs 100m. They can use this money in future investments like buying land, engage in coffee business, poultry among others,” she says adding it can inspire others to join the industry. She also said she will arrange a meeting where film makers will meet the President for a cup of tea and discuss more. “Our President is a very generous leader who has supported all kinds of people ,groups irrespective of their political back grounds so am sure that he will support film makers.   2. Best Director- Fred Makanga
  3. Best peoples Choice- Wakawaka, Kagwa Julius and Nsamba Posiano
  4. Best TV drama- Damali
  5. Lifetime Film festival achievement – Andrew Benon Kibuuka
  6. Festival Champion- Mult choice
  7. Best Screen play-Atenyi Steve
  8. Best Actress in a feature film -Kyampaire Florence
  9. Best Actor in a feature film -Micheal Aduyo Junior
  10. Best Sound design in the film-Simon Agola
  11. Best Actress in a film drama- Dianah Kahunde
  12. Best Actor in a TV drama- Derrick Baka
  13. Best Regional Film – No Needa
  14. Best Documentary. Ekitibwa kyo Lubugo- Mariam Ndagire
  15. Best Amination Film- Amalla and spirit of Namagunga
  16. Best short Film- Infinity
  17. Best make up in feature Film- Nakaziba Ester.
    After the final award was given, all the guests enjoyed lavish music beers till morning.
