The Katikiro of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiya has urged the current musicians to learn and seek guidance from old arts if they are to stay longer in the Music Industry, Spyreports can tell. The Katikiro made the remarks during a joint meeting with UCC to officially launch Atakuraba Yakunyooma concert at Bulange Mengo. The concert which is expected to attract thousands of people will be held at Sheraton gardens on July 31.
Katikiro while giving his remarks says music of today is fading out because it has no meaning. “If you want to stay and earn from Music look out old arts and they guide you on how to produce music with meaning,” Says Katikiro. He says current arts have a tendency of going to the stage make noise when the public cheers at them they think they have succeeded which is very wrong. “If old arts didn’t protect the music current arts would have no job urging them to also protect the same for future generations” he says. He also thanked UCC for bringing up old arts because they are the ones who brought music in Uganda.
UCC executive Director Hon Nyombi Thembo music cannot exist without content. “We are changing music from physical ownership to instant access and streaming,” he says. He added that UCC is making sure that old arts benefit from their music. “Old arts had content but with no money because they physically owned it,” he says. He adds that current musicians have gained a lot from their music because it is shared from various social media platforms such as You tube, Tiktok,X among others. “Currently Ugandans who are on Tiktok is 11 millions and they go on Tiktok for music,” he says adding that 55% of sold data daily comes from Tik Tok. He says UCC started on film making and they have succeeded and now putting attention to Kadongo Kamu. He says this concert is sponsored by Airtel, Movit,Rose foam among others.
