Police in Kampala Metropolitan South have made a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime after arresting four suspects believed to be part of a criminal gang behind a series of aggravated robberies in Entebbe and other areas.
The suspects were arrested following investigations into two armed robbery incidents that occurred on June 1 and August 3, 2026, in Entebbe Police Division. According to police, the two attacks were carried out by the same criminal group that has been linked to several other robbery cases within Kampala Metropolitan, Eastern Uganda and the Albertine region.
The first robbery happened at Buyinja Trading Centre in Nkumba Ward, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District. Police said three armed men, including one dressed in military attire, attacked a sales manager of a distribution company and fired two bullets into the air before assaulting her.
The attackers reportedly stole about Shs24 million and escaped on a motorcycle. During investigations at the scene, police recovered two cartridges, which helped detectives trace the firearm used in the robbery.
Further investigations revealed that the same firearm had been used in five previous robberies within Kampala Metropolitan and four other robbery incidents outside the region, helping police connect the suspects to a wider network of criminal activities.
On August 3, 2026, the gang allegedly struck again at a shop in Kasenyi, Bendegere Village, during the offloading of goods from a truck. The suspects reportedly fired one shot, threatened the cashier with a knife, stole money and fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Police investigations led to the identification and tracing of the motorcycle believed to have been used during the robbery. A joint operation involving Kampala Metropolitan South Police leadership and Jinja City Police later intercepted the suspects in Ngogwe, Buikwe District, as they attempted to return to Kampala.
During questioning, police said the suspects confessed to participating in both Entebbe robberies and revealed their involvement in several other criminal activities across different parts of the country.
The suspects also guided detectives to Ngando Village in Mukono District, where police recovered a rifle loaded with 15 rounds of live ammunition.
The four suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Police said they are conducting further operations to arrest other members of the gang and bring them before court.
Kampala Metropolitan Police South Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said the arrests demonstrate the impact of intelligence-led operations and cooperation between different security agencies in fighting organised crime.
Police have urged members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals or activities, saying timely information from citizens remains important in preventing and fighting criminal activities.
