Police in Mubende have confirmed a fatal road crash at Kagavu in Kalonga Sub County that left two people dead and four children injured after a trailer truck lost control and crushed an oncoming vehicle.
The accident happened on Friday, August 14, 2026, at around 8:25pm along the Mubende–Mityana Road. Police said an ACTROS truck with registration numbers UBK 132F and trailer UBK 710J was travelling from Mubende towards Mityana when the driver lost control while descending at Kagavu.
The truck reportedly moved into the opposite lane and collided with a Nissan Murano motor vehicle registration number UBD 063R before falling on top of it. The Nissan Murano remained trapped underneath the heavy trailer, making rescue efforts difficult.
Police officers from Mubende, led by the District Police Commander, responded to the scene and worked with other emergency teams to save the victims. A crane was brought in to remove the trailer that had rested on top of the vehicle, allowing rescuers to access those trapped inside.
Four children who survived the crash were identified as Johana Bala, aged 11; Isabella Rebecca, aged 5; Gabriella Kawini, aged 12; and Dorothy, aged 12. They were rushed to Mubende Hospital for medical attention using a police ambulance registration number UP 4906.
Two adults died on the spot. One of the deceased was identified as Kaijuka Kenneth, aged 45, while the identity of the second male adult had not yet been established.
Police later removed the victims and deceased from the wreckage after a difficult rescue operation. The bodies were taken to the mortuary at Mubende Hospital, while efforts are underway to tow the damaged vehicles from the scene.
The Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, SSP L Kigozi, said preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by careless driving by the trailer truck driver.
Police said inquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing as they continue to gather more information about the tragic incident
