Police in Kampala have launched investigations into a shocking early morning incident in Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, where two children were killed and three others seriously injured in a suspected stabbing attack.
The incident happened at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, after a housemaid was reportedly awakened by an alarm and cries for help coming from the main house. She rushed to check what was happening and found several children with serious injuries.
According to police, the maid opened the house and discovered the children with severe stab wounds. Fourteen-year-old Khadija Daizy was found dead in her bedroom.
Another victim, seven-year-old Hawa Dalena, was rushed to Nsambya Hospital for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical attention. Their bodies were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Three other children, aged 13, eight and five years, survived the attack and were rushed to hospital for treatment. Police are yet to establish the full circumstances surrounding the injuries.
The suspect has been identified as Namayo Dorothy, a 43-year-old Kenyan national and mother of the victims. She was also found injured and is currently admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital under police guard.
During the incident, a Toyota Hiace vehicle parked at the premises was also set on fire and completely burnt. Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire.
A jerrycan suspected to have contained petrol was recovered from the scene and has been taken for forensic examination as investigators seek to establish how the fire started and whether it was connected to the attack.
Kampala Metropolitan Police South, through Kabalagala Police Division, has opened a case of murder, attempted murder and arson. Homicide detectives, Scene of Crime Officers and fire and rescue personnel visited the scene, examined the premises and recovered exhibits for further analysis.
Police have also recorded statements from the person who reported the incident and other relevant witnesses. The suspect remains under police guard as investigations continue.
Police said the motive behind the attack has not yet been established and detectives are working to piece together the events that led to the deaths, injuries and burning of the vehicle.
