Police have recovered a Toyota Rumion motor vehicle registration number UBM 037E that was reported stolen in Kasanje, Wakiso District, and arrested two suspects believed to be connected to the theft.
The vehicle was reported stolen by unknown persons at Kasanje Police Station on August 22, 2026, prompting police to begin investigations aimed at identifying those behind the incident and recovering the motor vehicle.
A breakthrough came on September 1, 2026, after police received information that one of the suspects, identified as Mubiru Patrick, had been seen driving the stolen vehicle. Police quickly organised an intelligence-led operation that led to his arrest.
During questioning, Mubiru reportedly told investigators that he had hired out the stolen vehicle to another suspect, identified as Kiiza Sowali, for self-drive. According to police, the vehicle was hired at a fee of Shs100,000.
Following the information provided by Mubiru, police traced Kiiza to Kasawo in Mukono District, where he was arrested. The operation also led to the recovery of the stolen Toyota Rumion, which was taken into police custody as investigations continued.
Mubiru has been identified by police as the prime suspect in the case, while Kiiza is also being investigated over his alleged involvement in the handling of the stolen vehicle.
Police said the recovery was the result of intelligence-led investigations aimed at tracking down the suspects and locating the stolen vehicle. The development has also provided investigators with more leads into the circumstances surrounding the theft.
The two suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigators complete the case file before they are taken to court to face charges related to the stolen motor vehicle.
Police have continued to urge members of the public to provide information that can help investigators recover stolen property and apprehend suspects involved in criminal activities.
