The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the dates and programme for the election of the National Women’s Committee, marking the final stage in the process of forming Women’s Councils and Committees from the village level up to the national level.
In a statement issued on 31st August 2026, Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the National Conference for the election of the National Women’s Committee will take place on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September 2026.
The elections will be conducted through an electoral college made up of members of the National Women’s Council. The electoral college will consist of 146 Chairpersons of City and District Women’s Councils, together with one woman with a disability nominated by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.
The delegates will gather at Kyambogo College School in Nakawa Division, Kampala Capital City, where the election activities will officially begin on Thursday, 3rd September 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
According to the Electoral Commission, accreditation of delegates will start at 10:00 a.m., followed by the nomination of candidates at 2:00 p.m. Candidates will compete for four key positions on the National Women’s Committee, including Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Publicity Secretary, and Secretary for Finance.
Women leaders who meet the requirements and wish to contest for any of the positions have been advised to collect nomination forms from the Office of the Returning Officer for Kampala Capital City, located in Ministers Village, Ntinda, Nakawa, Kampala.
The nominated candidates will then begin their campaigns on Friday, 4th September 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. Voting will later take place from 12:00 p.m. through a secret ballot system to ensure a fair and transparent election process.
The Electoral Commission has encouraged all delegates and aspiring candidates to follow the announced guidelines, respect the election timelines, and adhere to the established procedures.
The election will conclude the nationwide process of establishing Women’s Councils and Committees, which are designed to provide a platform for women’s participation and representation at different levels of leadership across Uganda.
