Top UPDF Gen Warns Officers Ahead Of 2026 General Elections

The Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, Major General James Birungi has urged the officers to remain vigilant in their duties, particularly as the country approaches the 2026 general elections.

Speaking at the pass-out of 195 officers who completed the Basic Intelligence Course (Intake 23/24–25) at the School of Defence Intelligence and Security in Migyera, Nakasongola, Maj Gen Birungi said that “everything we do must be well thought out to maintain peace and stability.”

He called on the soldiers to uphold integrity and take an active role in fighting corruption, emphasizing that it was their duty to fight against the vice.

Representing the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine (JS-TRADOC), Colonel Stephen Mulindwa underscored the strategic value of intelligence in military operations and urged the graduates to uphold values like loyalty, integrity, patriotism, pan-Africanism, and teamwork.

Colonel James Muhumuza, the Commandant of the School of Defence Intelligence and Security, commended the officers for their discipline and dedication throughout the course.

The event was attended by senior and junior UPDF officers, including Brig Gen Pande Kajuba, Col Moses Ssentogo, Col Paddy Ankunda, Colonel Albert Kashakamba, Col Charles Asingura, representatives from the Uganda Police Force and a delegation from Makerere University among others.
