NRM’s Burundo Alex Implicated in Academic Fraud, Identity Manipulation

Must read

The race for Member of Parliament in Bulambuli County on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket has taken a new twist. One of the candidates, Burundo Alex, is facing serious accusations about his identity and academic qualifications.

A petition has been submitted to the NRM Electoral Commission, claiming that Burundo Alex is not using his real academic documents. The petition says that from 2001 to 2016, Burundo served as the Chairperson of Local Council III in Bukhalu Sub-county, Bulambuli District. During that time, all official documents, such as salary slips, voter registers, and government records, listed his name as “Burundo Alex.”

According to the petition, in 2015, Burundo changed his name through a deed poll to Burundo Musingo Mungoma Alex. It is alleged that this name change was meant to allow him to use the academic documents of another person — Musingo Alex — who had the necessary qualifications to contest for Parliament. The petition claims Burundo used these documents to get nominated in the 2016 elections and is doing the same for the upcoming race.

Then in 2019, Burundo reportedly changed his name again to Burundo Mungoma Musingo Alex. The petitioners believe these repeated changes were meant to make the forged documents look legitimate and confuse authorities.

There are also questions about his school history. Burundo claims he attended Wahanwanyi Primary School from 1982 to 1988. But according to the petition, this school did not have an official UNEB examination center at the time, meaning students could not sit for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) there.

Burundo also says he attended Mbale Secondary School for “O” Level and Aggrey Memorial School for “A” Level. But the petitioners say there is no record of him in either school, and the certificates he presented actually belong to Musingo Alex.

The petition accuses Burundo of forgery, impersonation, and using false documents — all serious crimes under Ugandan law. The petitioners say this could put the NRM party at risk if the matter is not investigated quickly. They fear that the court may disqualify him later, which could cause the party to lose the seat.

The petition includes evidence such as salary slips, voter cards, and gazette notices. It also mentions that some former teachers and students are ready to testify that the academic documents do not belong to Burundo.

This case has raised new concerns about the need for honesty and transparency in Uganda’s elections. As the NRM Electoral Commission begins to review the complaint, many people are asking: Is Burundo Alex really qualified — or has the system been tricked by a false identity?
