The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) showed great courage and teamwork during a successful night patrol in Lamwo District on Monday, July 7th, 2025. At around 8:00 pm, soldiers from the 1 Dumisha Brigade arrested a 24-year-old man named Okot Charles. He is a resident of Irumo Village, located in Ngasino Parish, Agoro Sub-County.
The arrest came after a report that Okot had caused trouble earlier that day in a local bar. He had been involved in a fight and later returned to the area, firing several gunshots into the air using an AK-47 rifle. His actions caused fear among the residents and raised concerns about public safety.
Thanks to quick action by the UPDF, Okot was captured before he could do more harm. During questioning, he led the soldiers to a hidden spot where several military items were stored. These included a submachine gun (SMG) with serial number 56-121201110, six bullets, a bayonet, a UPDF belt, a T-shirt, a bonnet, and even a South Sudan military uniform. The discovery suggested possible links to illegal activities involving armed forces’ materials.
Lt Col Mubangizi Ipolito, the commander of the 1 Dumisha Brigade, praised the community for helping the army maintain peace and order. He thanked the people of Lamwo for working closely with the UPDF and encouraged them to keep reporting suspicious activities.
“We thank the people of Lamwo for the continued partnership in maintaining peace and security,” Lt Col Mubangizi said. “The UPDF remains committed to protecting all Ugandans and their property.”
This operation is a clear example of how cooperation between the army and the community can stop crime and keep the country safe. The UPDF continues to urge all citizens to support their efforts by sharing information that can prevent violence and protect lives.
